Coming to qathet! Rainforest Circus: Submerged
It’s a walk in the woods you’ll never forget!
The Rainforest Circus is just that: a circus that takes place in a forest! It includes aerialists in the trees, original music and soundscape, clown, dance, spoken word and artistic installations throughout– all inspired by the theme of “Submerged”. This production toured the Lower Sunshine Coast and Malcolm Island, BC in 2018.
Over the past two years, our team has collaborated with local artists in qathet to re-envision the show. We explored what lies beneath the surface of our lives; the stories and emotions submerged below . While this journey leads us to reckonings with grief and loss, there is plenty of light and magic as well. Imagine an ocean goddess with a dress the size of a parachute suspended from the trees, underwater creatures dancing among the ferns, live music echoing from cedar to fir to hemlock… It’s a walk in the woods you’ll never forget!
*Content Warning: the characters in the show are dealing with the loss of a child.

We are really excited to be able to present a live outdoor theatrical event. We will continue to maintain our commitment to safety and security for our performers, volunteers, staff and audience members. The production has reduced its audience capacity to allow for physical distancing, will incorporate enhanced cleaning procedures, and will have hand-sanitizer stations on site. Masks are recommended for people who are not fully vaccinated but are not required.
Staff, volunteers and guests are required to stay at home if they feel ill, have been in contact with someone with COVID, or have been outside of Canada in the last 2 weeks and have not been fully vaccinated. We will offer a full refund to anyone who has to cancel due to COVID safety protocols.
We ask that all guests respect the rules that will be posted on site. Credit or debit cards with tap are preferred to cash. If you experience any COVID symptoms while on site, please contact our First Aid Officer (at the Box Office).
Volunteer with the Circus!
We are seeking volunteers for a variety of positions for the show (from set-up to box office support). This is a great opportunity to learn more about live theatre and work with a passionate team of artists and production staff.
Event volunteers can select a 4-hour shift on one or more of following days: August 10, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22. If you would like to take part but cannot commit to a 4-hour shift or would like to immerse in the circus for the whole day, there are more flexible shifts on August 22.
In appreciation of your support, volunteers will receive a complementary ticket to see the show, lunch on the day of their shift, and an invitation to the Opening Reception.
